RevMan 5

Cochrane Ideas for RevMan is now closed as we are rebuilding RevMan as ‘RevMan Web’ and cannot respond to new requests for some time. The feedback recorded here will be taken into account and you will be able to test and give more relevant feedback when RevMan Web beta is released.

How can we improve review editing?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Android/iPhone/iPad/tablet RevMan

To create a tablet/smartphone app for RevMan would make my life a whole lot easier. I'm sure many authors would agree.

It is a pain having to drag the laptop everywhere just to work on a review so an app/web-based application would be much appreciated.

RevMan Web will be a responsive Web app, which will work fine on tablets, and be functional on a phone.
We do not have plans/resources to code native Android/iOS apps.

  4. Wrap comparison title text when generating figures from analyses, to prohibit truncation at 115 characters

While there is no limit to the number of characters the title of a comparison may have when setting up analyses, only the first 115 characters are displayed in titles of figures generated.

Allowing the titles to wrap to the next line(s) would resolve this.

  5. Include ROBINS assessment criteria for non-randomised studies

For intervention reviews, please allow a choice for the author to choose to deactivate existing RoB assessments and active ROBINS-2 assessment criteria for non-randomised studies.

  7. Find and replace could take into account format of text

I sometimes use formatting in the characteristics tables to make the text clearer - eg the word "Intervention" might be in bold. If I want to make global edits to bold text the replacement text is not bold. I then have to go through and bold it again which is time-consuming. Is it possible for find and replace to take into account the formatting of the text that is replaced.

  8. Copy and paste sections by header

It would be efficient to be able to copy and paste an entire section or sections between reviews (e.g. reference list for included reviews) instead of having to expand each section and select all of the individual items. Thank you!

  9. For DTA reviews, allow users to choose reference tests to display in risk of bias applicablity figures

At the moment, only the index tests can be selected for inclusion in the risk of bias and applicability figures in DTA reviews. For reviews in which the reference standard includes one of the index tests, could you allow for the insertion and display of more than one reference test in the risk of bias and applicability figures?

For followup, the review (in development) titled Serum amylase and lipase and urinary trypsinogen and amylase for diagnosis of acute pancreatitis prompted this request.

  10. Add and isbn identifier for book references

As an Information Specialist I would like to be able to add an ISBN to a book reference in a review. The current list of identifiers includes 'other', but a specific ISBN label would help with discoverability of the resource being referenced. See attached image of a book reference.

  12. quality of evidence in forest plots

Risk of bias has recently been added to forest plots. However, now that GRADE quality assessment incorporates RoB and provides a better assessment of the evidence, it seems like it would be more useful to be able to display these assessments in the forest plots

  13. Compare protocol with draft review in RevMan

As an author, I would like to be able to generate a comparison of my protocol and draft review before submission, to ensure I have followed the methods as specified and noted any changes under 'Differences between the protocol and the review'.

As an Editor, I would like authors to be prompted to look at a comparison of the protocol and draft review before submission, so that these errors can be found before submission and the length of time spent by editors checking the comparison can be reduced (e.g. but including a link to an automatically generated comparison in the…

  14. Scale risk of bias indicators in Forest plot based on study weights

At the moment, the risk of bias indicators (high, low, unclear) can be shown beside a Forest plot. However, this visualisation can potentially give a false impression of risk. For example, most studies included in a Forest plot may have a low risk of bias but may have been assigned very low weights in the analysis. If a small number of the studies have uncertain or high risk of bias but are given most of the weight, visually the figure would seem to associate the pooled estimate primarily with low risk-of-bias studies despite the weighting favouring higher-risk studies.

    The suggestion…

  15. Zero-cell correction.

"16.9.2 Studies with zero-cell counts" says: "For studies where no events were observed in one or both arms, these computations often involve dividing by a zero count, which yields a computational error. Most meta-analytical software (including RevMan) automatically check for problematic zero counts, and add a fixed value (typically 0.5) to all cells of study results tables where the problems occur."
When one group have no event, this is corrected. However, when two groups have no event, this is not corrected. Could you amend this problem?

  17. Pasting text with tabs

When I paste my strategy from CENTRAL (both Wiley & CRSO) there is no space between the line number and the search line text so I need to edit each line. Please would you add a space or tab after the line number

  18. Custom table of study attributes

As an author I want to see a single table of key attributes of my studies, so I can easily compare them.

In RevMan 5, study characteristics are listed one after the other. The proposal here is to create a study matrix - a custom table of study attributes where the author chooses what to display in each column.

Authors should be able to choose from:
    - Indivicual Characteristics (eg Methods)
    - Each RoB domain judgement and reason
    - IDs (eg clinicaltrials.gov)
    - all Outcomes/Subgroups study is included in
    - etc

A given matrix view could possible also be saved…

  19. Sensitivity analysis allowing for inclusion of data from Excluded studies

    Dear IMS Team,
I am updating a review where we want to make a sensitivity analysis where we include some studies that were originally excluded (I.e. to see if a more broad approach of study inclusion will influence our results). Unfortunately it seem that RevMan only allows for the inclusion of INCLUDED studies in forest plots. So since the studies are EXCLUDED we cannot include them in our analysis. We have decided just to report the data in the text, but it would be nice if RevMan would allow for inclusion of other studies than the INCLUDED studies.

  20. increase number of decimals in statistical output of RevMan

As a statistician I would like to increase the number of decimals in the statistical output of the figures

E.g.: for a p-value of 0.05 it would be important to know whether the output was generated by rounding up or down
