RevMan

Please note:
We are currently rebuilding RevMan as ‘RevMan Web’. It is still important that you share your ideas, but please know that they will not be implemented in the near future.
Approved ideas that we can include in the first generation of RevMan Web will be tagged as ‘Planned’. Ideas that we cannot implement until the second generation will be tagged as ‘Planned – long term’.

Tell us what you need.
Start with a short label and then a fuller description. See if you can include a ‘user story’ as the first line of the description. A user story is about clearly telling is who you are, what you want and why you need it.
Example: “As an author, I want to edit my review on my tablet so I can finish it faster.”

How can we improve review editing?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Add and isbn identifier for book references

As an Information Specialist I would like to be able to add an ISBN to a book reference in a review. The current list of identifiers includes 'other', but a specific ISBN label would help with discoverability of the resource being referenced. See attached image of a book reference.

    • Custom table of study attributes

As an author I want to see a single table of key attributes of my studies, so I can easily compare them.

In RevMan 5, study characteristics are listed one after the other. The proposal here is to create a study matrix - a custom table of study attributes where the author chooses what to display in each column.

Authors should be able to choose from:
      - Indivicual Characteristics (eg Methods)
      - Each RoB domain judgement and reason
      - IDs (eg clinicaltrials.gov)
      - all Outcomes/Subgroups study is included in
      - etc

A given matrix view could possible also be saved…

I would like to see a field in the study characteristics table (included, excluded & ongoing) to record the trial registration number, where there is one, for each study.

This info can currently be stored as Identifier(s) for a Study, Do you mean it should be more visible when working on the review; or to the reader of the published review; or both?

        • import study data in xml from clinicaltrials.gov

I have a result set on clinicaltrials.gov. I downloaded full study characteristics and results in xml. Now the workflow towards RevMan is broken.

It would be super if we could parse these results into RevMan. We would need a matching interface. e.g. match fields to RevMan analyses. Also import study-id's as references. O migh, this would be the real power from big data!

            Quick value score -1

            Pros: +1 High value;
Cons: -1 Hard to do; -1 Complex to scope

Agree that easy flow of data is important, but we are not planning that RevMan will be supporting a variety of data sets. Other tools may be more relevant for this, such as Covidence or CRS-D – and RevMan will ‘talk’ to these,

          • Add parentheses automatically to citations

The parenthesis used around the reference citation needs to be manually added. They can be automatically added when you link a reference.

            • Automatic Correction of References with DOI, PMID, Trial ID

As a reviewer/TSC, I want to be able to see a button just in front of the references that have a PMID, or DOI, or Trial ID that by pressing that button, Review Manager could automatically get all correct citation information from PubMed or DOI server or Trial Registers and import into Review Manager and replace with current incorrect/insufficient info.

              • Sorting references alphabetically should not divide citations by included/excluded/other study categorisation

At the moment, choosing "sort alphabetically" when inserting links to studies sorts the citations alphabetically within each type of citation.

For example, in the attached screen shot, the three included studies will be sorted alphabetically, followed by the citations for the excluded studies, as shown as

                "Bassi 2010; Conlon 2001; Van Buren 2014; Adham 2013; Correa-Gallego 2013; Fisher 2011; Giovinazzo 2011; Heslin 1998; Jeekel 1992; Kawai 2006; Lim 2013; Mehta 2013; Paulus 2012"

Would it be possible to insert reference, regardless of whether they are included, excluded or classified as "other", in alphabetical order?

                    Quick value score 3
Pros: +2 High value; +1 Obvious link to target (1.3 Efficient production)
                    Cons: 0

The bigger picture here is that when references are already studifiied, that information should not be lost when importing.

The data feeds from CRS & Covidence to RevMan Web must natively support this. RevMan Web’s import function should do so as well.

                  • Ability to remove studies directly from Outcome pane

Currently, you can only add studies in Outcome pane. If you want to remove a study from Outcome, you need to do it from the Outline pane.
It will be more intuitive if all functionality is collected in one place.

                    • Highlight newly added studies/refs in an updated review

Highlight or otherwise distinguish newly added studies (and new refs to already included studies) when updating a review - helpful for updating authors but also good to flag up these new studies/refs in the published review. Should be automatically switched off when review starts next update cycle.
