No Quick value score as by UX Lead but I think this would be very valuable AND require a lot of work.
No value score, as added by UX Lead
Not scored – too many components
After consulting with ME Support:
there is both a need for sending of ad hoc emails related to a review, and a benefit of a complete email integration that allows handling and storing all correspondence related to a review in Archie. The title of this idea has been updated to reflect its focus on storing all email
It is possible to send generic emails to the Contact person (or all authors) using the Task email system and if the right email template is created, this can be done from any task, and without referencing the task at all (see details in Comments) . If sending ad hoc email should be even simpler, please submit as separate idea,
“Quick value score”:http://tech.cochrane.org/aboutus/uxgroup/scoring:
Pros + 2 High value
Cons: -1 Good alternative exists, -1 Hard to do
To create a template for a generic email to the authors that can be sent from any task:
1. use Tools > Edit Task Email Templates
2. Click Add
3. On General tab, use the following options
Name: "Generic email to Contact Person (CC authors)"
Type: Information Email
Recipient: Contact Person
CC Role: Authors
4. On Message tab, consider adding:
Review No field to Subject.
"Dear [RECIPIENT NAME]" to text
5. Click Save.
This template can then be used from any task.
See Archie Help: http://www.cochrane-net.org/imshelp/tasks/task_emails/tasks_email_template/setting_up_task_email_templates.htm for more detail on templates.
We are planning to overhaul the Archie login page, which is reasonably simple, A full redesign of all of Archie is a lot more work and and currently not considered a priority.
Easy to do. Likely to happen as part of general login page redesign.
This has also seen initial discussion in Editorial Resources Comittee – all comments on how this could work well are welcome.
Admin note: two attachments added.
For files that the browser can just show (txt, pdf) this should be quite easy.
Update: DB search shows that 60% of the current WF files are doc or docx – text and pdf are 29 %.
My assessment for now: wait for more votes or comments
Based on the following scores, the value vs resources trade-off is not clear :
Simple option (txt and PDF only): +1 / -1
+1 Easy to do
-1 Good alternative exists (download opens these files pretty fast)
Full solution (preview MS Office files): +1 /-0
+1 High value
Quick value score 0
